The original North American Din Tai Fung, opened in 2000 at the Westfield Santa Anita mall in Arcadia — making it the flagship US location. Founded in Taipei in 1958 and reborn as a dumpling restaurant in 1972, Din Tai Fung is world-famous for its xiao long bao: soup dumplings with paper-thin wrappers hand-pleated to exactly 18 folds, each weighed to the gram before steaming.
The Arcadia location draws enormous crowds from across the San Gabriel Valley and beyond. Reservations are strongly recommended on weekends. The open kitchen lets you watch dumpling chefs work at extraordinary speed and precision. Must-order: Pork Xiao Long Bao, Pork Chop Fried Rice, Cucumber Salad, and Noodles with Sesame Sauce.
